Who We Are
Don Cerra – Building Homes Since 1973
In 1961, my father started Cerra Construction Inc. in New Jersey. His business card read “Frank J. Cerra, Custom Builder of Distinctively Fine Homes”. In 1973, I joined my father and learned to be a builder from the ground up. I got my hands dirty every day and still do on every new home I build.
Our goal is to build homes our clients can afford to live in while still providing them with the architectural details that bring warmth and character to the home. We first focus on the design with our clients helping them to select plans and make modifications needed to make the plans their own. Then the real work begins as we examine the different methods of construction that will fit the clients budget.
A leader in building energy efficient homes
As a custom builder Cerra Homes has always been an innovator in our industry receiving recognition for our achievements in energy efficiency. After finishing a home in 1990 we received the “Good Cents” award from New Jersey Power and Light for excellence in energy efficiencies. We further forced Owens Corning Build Pink campaign to rewrite their program because they didn’t have the computer model with the levels of insulation we were using in our homes available to give us a rating.
Today, we use a HERS rater (Home Energy Rating System) to test our performance prior to construction, during and after the home is built. Each home is built to the DOE (Department of Energy) Challenge Home standards for energy efficiencies. This makes us part of the 1% of builders who build to this level of excellence.
Don, along with his wife, Nancy are both LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Associate. The integrated design process that champions LEED projects is incorporated in all our projects – whether building new home, remodeling or just an addition. Our clients, partner-vendors, HERS rater, along with Don Cerra, are all an integral part of the design estimate and final build budget with specifications.
This why Cerra Homes is “Distinctively Fine, Decidedly Green”
